Kari R. Johnson brings over three decades of legal expertise in appellate law and litigation to DeMent Askew Johnson & Marshall. As a trial attorney and a Board-Certified Specialist in Appellate Law by the North Carolina Board of Legal Specialization from 2012-2022, Kari is widely recognized for her ability to navigate complex legal issues and deliver impactful results. Her litigation practice includes significant focus on civil rights litigation, employment law, and constitutional claims, areas where her dedication to justice and advocacy for clients truly shine.
Kari graduated cum laude from Wake Forest University School of Law in 1987, where she served on the Wake Forest Law Review and Moot Court Board. Her undergraduate studies at East Carolina University earned her magna cum laude honors in Political Science. Early achievements, including her recognition as a Political Science Honors Student and Gravely Foundation Scholarship recipient, set the foundation for her distinguished career.
Admitted to practice in North Carolina state courts, U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of North Carolina, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, Kari’s appellate work spans diverse legal disciplines. Her commitment to the legal profession includes service on the North Carolina Bar Association’s Appellate Practice Specialty Committee, contributions to the Litigation Section, and editorial work on The Litigator. As an adjunct professor at both Campbell University School of Law and UNC School of Law, she has taught courses on Legal Research and Writing and Advocacy. Additionally, Kari has shared her expertise through CLE presentations on discovery techniques, appellate issues, and municipal legal topics.
